19 november, 2022 Wandering & Capturing Momentsee

A much better day than last night!  Just my usual fatigue & tiredness plus a little queasiness.  And not much pain.

Cinder was gone all day again.  I did not panic.  Warmer weather so she might be hunting or roaming.  Worries me but I have no control.  She came back after our supper.  Good to see her.  And it is hard to keep her drinking water when it freezes quickly.  Maybe she was hunting for water.

My photos are of 2 different steam engines.  The first two photos are in Newton.  This one is on display.  The others are of one called Big Boy!  Number 4014.  It is huge & heavy.  When it goes past you & you are standing close the earth moves!  It is the only one still licensed to still carry freight, etc.  It takes a trip every summer.  I have seen him 3 times.

The first time I saw him was when I was in Abilene KS.  The city did not look normal.  People were milling around, like waiting for a parade.  I asked & I was told a train had been in town & was headed to Salina KS.  If you take the back way to Salina you follow the train tracks.  There was a long line of vehicles driving next to Big Boy.  I had my windows open to hear the engine, the whistle, & the bell.  At one point I sped up to get far ahead & parked.  Got photos of it approaching & going by.  Then I went to Salina to see it.  I had no idea how special he was.

Then my brother & I saw him twice. First time in Salina.  Too many people.  JR was so nice that he brought me a chair to sit on.  Ha.  The train came, I got kicked off the chair, & he stood on it for good photos.  The photos here are ones I took in Salina.

The second time we saw Big Boy was in Abilene.  Much better.  Easy, close parking.  We got there early to make sure.  You can stand right next to it as it goes by.  Gives you chills!!!

My second fave steam engine is the Durango Silverton railroad.  My dearest wish is to ride it one more time.  That was the best ride.  Have to find someone to drive me there.  In no way am I driving the Million Dollar Highway to get there.

Abilene KS has a train that goes from there to Enterprise.  Not far enough but still fun.  On saturday evenings they have a dinner train.  I did that once with friends.  Willie went & never quit complaining how awful the good was.  It was not.  He ate every bite.  If it was awful he would have left it on the plate.

Four years ago this weekend Kisse went missing. I could hear her but no idea where she was. My nephew was out of town until Sunday. He looked on the roof but nowhere for her to get stuck. Turns out she climbed in the vent from my dryer. And she was in the back of my dryer. I never let her outside again. House cat for 4 years. I am glad. Hope she is also. If left outside she would be dead by now. She had a mom & 2 siblings. They all died. I hate to think what she saw.

Got down to 17F last night.  And then warmed up!!  It was 20F this morning.  Got into the 30s.  Warmer tomorrow.
