12/2024 Lördag the 14th - Wandering & Capturing Moments

                Today's Name Day:  Sixten, Sten

Today was a day of rest.  I had no energy.  Cinder took a nice nap with me.  Only one small text from MM.  Plus a couple from JR.  Had an email last night from a friend.
There were 2 funerals I should went to this weekend.  But since Willie & Mom have died I cannot attend funerals.  I get way too emotional,  No one needs me there like that.  And pretty sure no one misses me.
TV sucks on the weekends.  Watching old shows I taped.  Soon Saturday Night Live will be on.  Great!!  Something to look forward to.
Had rain last night.  I slept & missed it.  Got .25". Not enough to get excited over.  Then a bit warmer this afternoon.
Today in town we celebrated Saint Lucia.  Lots of activities in town during the day & many fun things at the Old Mill tonight.  One time I was lucky enough to attend the entire day & night.  Willie never ever went to anything like that,  But had a friend here from South Africa.  He & I did the entire festival.  A wonderful day with great memories.  Saw all the dancing, singing, ate local foods at the Church & elsewhere.  That evening we attended singing at the Mill & a talk by a tomte with Santa Claus was trying to get in but the doors were locked!!   As a finale we attended the Nutcracker ballet at the College.  Awesome.  He was just the best.  Wish we were still close but life changes.  Seems to never change in my favor though.
On the news last night they talked about a common depressant medication has been found to be full of dangerous stuff.  Dang.  It is the one I am on.  Will not take it again.  Talk to my doctor soon.  Scary.
The photos today are Christmas like.  I had made many Christmas ones to use but have not. Just do not care anymore.  Too depressed.

Taken at an art show & carved by a local artist.  Very cool as you never see the baby held by Joseph.

12/2024 Fredag the 13th - Wandering & Capturing Moments

Today's Name Day:  Lucia

Today’s been pretty great! I had a good night’s sleep with hardly any pain, which is awesome. It’s been a bit chilly today and last night.
I received the news today that a man who was a close friend to both Willie and me passed away yesterday. We shared a friendship that spanned many years. The memories I hold are truly cherished.
I kicked off my day with lunch at the White Peacock with my friend LL. They were super busy, and I was worried we wouldn’t find a spot, but luckily our usual table was open!
I headed over to the Old Mill Museum for work. I wrapped up Folder T and knocked out all of Folder U, which only had four photos, so that was a breeze. Then I tackled Folder V, and it had fewer than ten photos, so that was quick too. After that, I moved on to Folder W, which had a ton of photos, but I didn’t get around to scanning them yet.
Supper was a delightful Mexican feast. I enjoyed my favorite burrito, which was absolutely delicious. For dessert, I had a flan that was equally tasty.
One of our waiters has a wife who works there too; her name is Lucia. Today is a special day for Lucia, as we have a festival in town for a Swedish lady from years ago.. I made sure to tell her husband so he could share the news with her. The joy on her face was priceless; her eyes lit up with excitement! Throughout the day, there’s Swedish folk dancing, various talks and programs at the Old Mill, and special meals prepared by different groups. In the evening, there’s a big event at the college. I really wish I could still walk to join in on the festivities.
Photos tonite are of Lucia of all kinds.

10 December, 2022 Wandering & Capturing Moments

Had a fairly quiet day.  Cool but nice.  Cold over night.  National news showed films of the blizzard to the NW that is headed our way.  Oh, what a mess!!  When there is a blizzard why do people think they have to drive anywhere?  We might just get strong thunderstorms & no snow.  They are not sure.  But it will turn much colder.

Kind of nice when I have no plans I can sleep as late as I want.  And be lazy.  But I did have things for this evening.

My mattress topper is all worn out.  So I ordered another one.  And it came today.  Getting the old one off was a chore!  What a mess!!  It took up the entire bedroom!!  The box with the new one was sort of heavy but I just tipped it end over end to move it.  But putting the new one together almost required a shot or two of tequila!!  Had a cover to put the lower part in.  Not an easy job.  Then I put my fitted sheet on.  I think it is on ok.  Going out with Nico afterwards sure felt good!!

Nico has had all he can have --- supper, treat, potty, petting.  Of course he wants his corner of the sofa but it is mine while I write my blog.  He only understands NO after the 10th repetition of it.  Finally he is asleep!  I can relax!

I ordered Christmas gifts but 2 have not come yet.  I sort of worry.  One was late but is now on the way.

Today my town celebrated St. Lucia.  Swedish dancing in the streets, Lucia in my church & tea & cookies served afterwards.  One year a friend was here from South Africa & we did then entire festival from morning to night.  Willie never went to anything like it so it was a treat for me.  How fun.  Supper was spaghetti & meatballs served in my church.  It ended with the Nutcracker ballet.  What a day!  Great memory!

Watching the Maine Cabin Masters.  How I wish I could take a vacation in a cabin in Maine.  Just to sit by a lake & relax.  Heaven.

Photos today are Christmas.  None are mine.

Wandering, 13 december 2021

Happy St. Lucia Day!  It was a lovely day.  Warm and fairly calm.

I was home alone today.  Nothing big happened.  A calm day.

I went to town to pick up groceries.  We were out of everything.  At least bread and meat.  I do keep frozen meals handy.  I get tired of both.  But tis my life!

Tomorrow is trash pick up day.  One bin is not full but it is heavy!!! The other one is now full but light.  I have done better the last 2 weeks.  Junk mail goes directly into a trash bin & never in the house or car.  It never builds up that way.

The prairie was pretty this morning.  A little breeze moving the grasses.  The pond was very pretty with tiny waves glistening with the sunlight.  I had 2 bulls eating by the fence.  They ignore me.  Better than charging at me!!

Our drought continues.  We have now broken our record of days without any moisture.  I think we are at 47 days.  Not good for our ponds and wheat.  It gets old of hearing people be glad to have sunny weather.  One said she was decorating Christmas cookies on her patio tonight.  I am so glad for her.  If she had to haul water to her cattle she would not be so excited.  We aren't quite there but it will come if not rain.

Photos are winter, Christmas themed.  Looks like it might be my only way to enjoy winter.  I guess it is important if everyone else is happy.  I love my snow but not looking promising.

Wandering, 11 december 2021

Well, survived the huge cold front and snow storm that arrived last night.  Got pretty cold and not a flake of snow.  Waaay out in western Kansas there was snow but nary a hint here.  I am glad I do not have to listen that forecast again.  Now for a warm up.  Tired of too warm weather for here.  People are all excited and do not realise it is not good.  Climate change is good for no one.

This afternoon I worked a couple of hours at the SVAFC, an art show location.  (Smoky Valley Art and Folklife Center)  It was a slow day.  But I was able to take pictures of the art.  Nice to sit in there and watch people.  Busy town.  Even a tour bus in town.

In my town we celebrated St. Lucia.  The 4th graders had their own Lucia this morning  Then early afternoon the high school had another Lucia.  After there was hot tea and ginger cookies and Swedish dancing on the church lawn.  Down town there was a horse drawn carriage you could pay to ride in.  I would love to ride in it but I was alone.  Of course.  But they were to watch.  And hear the bells chiming!  See my town here:  https://www.lindsborgcity.org/   It should list all our festivals.

Tonight there is an Old Fashioned Christmas at the Old Mill tonight.  All sorts of activity around the Mill, old town, and Swedish Pavillon.  You can check out the Old Mill here:  https://www.mcphersoncountyks.us/20/Old-Mill-Museum

I had planned to park behind Jalisco's today, but I actually found a parking place in front.  Nice for a change when the town is busy.

I rarely go to anything in town.  No fun to go alone.  JR is always walking around taking photos.  One time a friend from South Africa was here just to attend a festival before he flew home.  He picked this day.  We started early in the morning and watched all the Lucia crownings, had a spaghetti dinner at church,  watched all the dancing with tea and cookies, then went to the Old Mill and took it all in.  To top off the day, we went to the college and saw the Nutcracker ballet.  What an awesome day.  I sure miss him.  Great guy!

Photos are Christmas themed and one of Lucia but not from my town.

Sheltering in Place, Mood Of Silence, Day 273....

Quiet day, mostly. Cold last nite with no rain or snow here. Some towns had 12" of snow. Not fair. It was cold today. It will be cold tomorrow.

JR and I ate at Jalisco's. Good to see MA. And even saw DV. Good to visit with them. Got a different meal than usual. No appetite today.

I have decided to change Kisse's name. When she lived out side she had no name, just Kitty. I called her Kitty the other day. She responded. Almost with a smile. She is now even cuddling in bed with us. Kitty it is.

Did not sleep well last night. Do idea why. Took my usual meds. Rest of day quiet. Just me and the kids. I try not to bother anyone. Every one has lives, etc. I am just a pest, a whiny one.

Today is St. Lucia Day. We had a celebration but much different than usual. Be fun to be in Sweden for it once.

Photos today are Christmas-like.
