19 December, 2022 Wandering & Capturing Moments

    A quiet day & not too cold.  Soon to end.  We are in a winter storm watch from wednesday evening through thursday afternoon.  And a wind chill watch from late wednesday through friday morning. Wind chill can reach as low as -40 (40 below zero).  We can get 2 inches of snow & blowing snow.  I am homebound from wednesday night to sunday morning.  Be far too cold to be out on the roads.  The highs get not too far from 1F.  Be my luck between town & home my car engine would freeze.  And there I would sit.  Better to stay home.

    I made a run to town to go to the bank.  Then I was early for my next stop so I just sat on Main Street & watched people & traffic.  It was peaceful.  I needed a moment of peace.  Don't always get it at home.  (Only had to get up twice so far while writing tonight.  So far.)  I could have went somewhere for coffee but quiet was nice.

    Picked up JR & we went to eat supper.  Stopped at the Crown & Rye.  I wanted Swedish pancakes.  They were very good.  But mine are better.  Mine should be.  I have made them for 50 years!!  No recipe.  I just do what Mom & Dad did.  My grandson wanted my recipe so I tried to describe what I do & how much I thought things were.  He made them the other night & said they were really good.  I always made a large bowl full so I had batter for 3 days.  One day was never enough!!  We always put butter & sugar on ours & rolled them up.

    Then JR got some groceries for me & him.  Hope mine last through the cold days.  Should be ok.

    With the cold temps & high winds have to leave my water dripping & hope the pipes do not freeze.  That is awful.  Makes me nervous just to think of it.

    Have yet to go look at Christmas lights.  Maybe after Christmas.  My heart is not in it this year.  Missing Mom & Willie too much.  And the lack of family to be with or friends to be with makes it worse.  But it is my life.  Do not see it changing.  I tried to make a new friend but we did not click.  I have acquaintances but they all have family & friends.  I do not fit anywhere.

29 november, 2022 Wandering & Capturing Moments

    The cold front hit hard this morning.  The temp was 48F all night.  Got up at 8am, & it had dropped to 32F & stayed there all day.  At 8am it was quite windy but not bad now.  Somewhere there was snow but nary a flake here.  Normal.  Tonight lows in the single digits & some below zero are forecast.  Better let my water drip a little.

    I have a bill to pay by the first.  And can I find it?  Of course not.  I looked through the mail 3x.  I called who is in charge & of course no answer or return call.  I hope tonight I get a call.

    I did go to town to mail another bill.  Plus I had meds to pick up.  Should have had them last week but they were really slow in getting them.  Missed at least a week.  Grrr.  Then I decided with the cold weather I better have a full tank of fuel.  And it was soooo cheap!  I paid $3.09.  Amazing!!

                      

 

    I got some Nordic socks for winter.  Now my feet are warm!!  They are very colorful!!

    I slept better last night & with little pain.  Just the awful itching.

    No nap today.  That awful Covid tiredness is much less.  Nice for a change.

    Saw that someone that used to be close to Willie.  They were in the National Guards together.  They went to basic training together.  Wish they would have stayed friends.  Very nice family.  Extra sad at this time of year.

    I slept good.  Lucky.  I had a busy day planned.

    I started out going to Lindsborg to get some insurance papers.   Then to Salina to the UPS store.  I knew where it was but it was not there.  They have moved.  OnStar got me there.  Then to the courthouse to renew my car tag.  Never a cheap affair.

    After Willie died I spent a lot of time in the tag office.  Sold many things & had to have paperwork for it all.  At that time there were 2 ladies working there who remembered Willie.  Everyone loved him where ever he went.  Today I got a lady and when I sat down she asked if I was his wife.  She remembered us.  She said they always enjoyed him & he was very ornery.  Nice to talk to someone who liked & remembered him & who also liked me.  Most of his friends did not like me.  I was too different.  Probably worthless in the opinion.  Not a go out & plow the back 80 wife.  Not one has ever reached out to me since he has been gone.  Fine with me.

    Then on the way home I stopped at KFC for chicken.  It is soooo difficult to drive home smelling chicken in the car.  We had a good supper here.

    Kind of in a blah mood tonight.  Needed to bring trash out & I did not.  Too hot for me.  It will keep.  Not like I have a tribe of friends/family to offer help.  When I feel better I will take it out.

    I was so surprised that I walked into the courthouse & stood in line with little pain.  And walked back to the car easily.  Pretty rare.  Nice for a change.

    Too hot today.  Last night was 72F & today was 94F.  And with high humidity.  There was rain west of us but gone now.  We got nada.  As usual.  I am ready for autumn.
