Today's Name Day:  Fingal, Selma

I have known several Selmas.

    I had a super busy day.  Luckily I slept really good!!

    First was my Swedish Friendship Group.  I don't think they even call it that any more.  Very sad.  And it always said in Swedish.  Too many changes.  😔

    The program today was LL & a report with lots of photos & info on celebations & parades starting in late 1800s.  Then in 1941 they became our Hyllningsfest celebration, parade, meal, dancing, etc.  They skipped a few years during WWII.  She had great photos.  She did a great job!!!  I am always surprised when I am 

there and people talk to me  to say they are glad to see me.  I like it though.

    Second was lunch at the White Peacock with LL.  I had my usual biscuits & gravy with green iced tea with raspberry in it.  I did manage to get us a table.

    Then I went to the SVAFC to work all afternoon.  MH saw me before he got to the Peacock so I got let in early.  It was a fun afternoon.  JH was painting etc at the Peacock & all his supplies were in the SVAFC in our backroom..  He was in & out all afternoon with a few breaks to sit & chat.  Not for long though.  Busy!!! Before he left I told him how thankful I am he is there & we chat.  He is one of the best.  I am very thankful for his friendship.

    After work I checked on MM at the Stuga.  But he was not there.  He had a bad moment around 5am & someone took him to his doctor in Salina.  I called to check on him.  I worry about him.

    Supper was at home.  Love having my potato sallad.  Will keep calling grocery orders in so I can have my fave foods.  And find new ones.  I have missed that.

    It was hot today.  Around 91F.  The humidity was deadly.  Felt awful.  Glad I do not have to work outside.  Hotter for a day or so then a cooler.  Rain on maybe sunday. Then weather is changing & swirling different way around bringing rain around the 4th.

    I know I am not working on July 4th.  MH said he would.  Does not matter to me.  I do not go to our local celebration in the park,   With mosquitos.  Better to stay home.  Have a bite tonight.  Ick.  The city does no fireworks.  I just ignore it all.  No family to spend time with so who cares.

    There is something that LL & I are watching way out in Goodland.  Making plans for a trip there.  It is 3 hours to there so it is doable in one day.  Something that is being built that it will be fun to see.  In the planning stages now.

    Photos are so-so today.  The laptop & phone did not sync today.  Irritating.

Today's Name Day:  Elise, Lisa

    Had a good day, but I was beyond tired all day.  Had trouble getting to sleep last nite & took a pill..  It kept working all day.  I fell asleep before going to work,  Thankfully I set my alarm or I would have missed work!!!  I struggled all afternoon.  I did not want to fall asleep in front of my coworkers.  Luckily LL had some new videos of old Hyllningsfest parades.  So fun to watch & they woke me up.  Whew.

    Supper was Mexican.  I ate maybe half.  My shot for my blood sugar & weight is hitting me hard.  It should get better.  Ice cream for dessert.

    I was watching the radar & we soon were in a warning for a severe weather.  I decided to hit the road.  We walked out of Jalisco's & it looked & felt stormy,  Drove half a blodk & blinding rain it.  With high winds.  Part way home I drove out of it.  No idea how much fell.  More is on the way.  Great.  💦💧

    Too hot today.  Mid 90s.  Ick.  About the same tomorrow until the rain starts.  Then it cools down. Sunday is in the 60s.  Awesome.  About time.

    Cinder was lazy this morning & sound asleep when I went to work.  When I got when got home  she wanted out but it was thundering.  Very loud.  She thought better of it.  The storm was gone, but she stayed in.  Not asked again.

    I took a nap after supper.  When I woke up I was clueless where I was.  Not had that happen for a long time!  Had the wrong day in my mind & what was on TV.  Did not take long to get on track again.  When I worked at the hospital I laid down after getting home one day.  I set my alarm.  Because it was winter it was dark early in the evening.  Alarm went off & I thought it was morning & I was late to work.  I hit the panic button!!!  I picked up the phone to call in.  Thank God I realised before I dialed all was ok.  But I am sure my blood pressure was super high!!!

National I Love You Day

Today's Name Day is Stellan

    Got cool last night.  I had to get up to turn some heat on.  Did not sleep too good.  And up extra early.  Another work day.  But a short day.

    Back to the SVAFC   at 930am to work.  I parked behind the SVAFC like I did yesterday.  I was met with a lady who promptly told me I could not park there.  Three businesses open on the area of parking I was in, but one owner had claimed it all.  Huh??  How can that be?  She finally said I could probably stay with no problem.  Then why attack me for no reason.  After she told me to move, the lady who claimed it all just for her, walked out, smiled & waved.  People can be so irritating & hurtful.  There is no need.

    Our Hyllningsfest had a parade today at 10am.  It was a long parade.  Had several school bands that all sounded good.  Some cool floats.  Many old cars.  It was cold & the wind started again.  I ate on the way to work.

    We got really busy after the parade.  Quite a few people sat & talked with me.  And asked questions.  They were interesting.  One lady's costume in our collection has a medal at the neck.  One man asked about it.  We had no clue, but wrote the words down & tried to translate.  They were not Swedish or Norwegian..  Then I remembered the owner had been part Danish also.  Then we got many of the words.  That did not make sense.  I googled the year of the war that was mentioned.  Then we had it figured out.  A man from Scotland last name of Sinclair was in the Swedish war & appeared to have died there.  I was proud of us.

    I was supposed to have two people bring a lunch.  One forgot, one was absent.  I was disappointed.  Oh well.  It was something special only offered at festivals.  )-;

    I came home & took a nice nap.  I was tired.  Tonight will be good.  Saturday Night Live is back on.  Finally!!

    My lap top is trying to die.  The entire screen will be covered with black lines that flash.  Hard to work.  If it can last just one more day, my new one will be here.  Whew!!

Friday the 13th

Today's Name Day is Berit, Birgit

    Had a great day!!  Slept ok & it got cool.  Cool enough I turned some heat on.

    I worked from 1-5pm at the SVAFC.  That is the Smoky Valley Art & Folklife Center.  One of my fave places.  Today was the start of our local festival that celebrates our heritage, called Hyllningsfest.  Check it out here https://www.svenskhyllningsfest.org/.

    Many people walking around checking out the booths selling things, stores all open,  beer garden, Swedish food served, grade school & high school kids & adults dancing Swedish folk dances, music.  We had lots of people come in to look at the Swedish costumes that are displayed where I work.  It was so fun.  I saw people I went to school with, a relative I do not see often, one relative who is very ill but came in in her wheel chair, & met some great fun people.  I really enjoyed the day.  I worked with a couple of very nice ladies.  I cannot stand for long so I sat near the door & greeted people & instructed them to sign our guest book.  I took many photos of visitors.  

    Work part of a day tomorrow.  We have a parade starting at 10am.  We have bands & floats, old machinery, etc.  Used to be much better but no one wants to build a float.  The college kids used to do the best floats, but they do not care now.  Miss them.

    MM grandson came to see me when I got there.  And brought me a glass of tea.  We had a nice visit.  Tonight he works in the beer garden.  They have a band tonight.

    The only bad thing today was the high winds.  We had up to 45mph winds.  And with the cold temps not fun to walk around.  But typical Hyllningsfest weather.  I have watched the parade in summer hot weather or snow.  And everything in between.

This photo is from the early 1960s.  The first & third girls are classmates of mine.  The second girl was my best friend.  The fourth girl is me!!!  Great memory!!
