I bought the post card.  It had the owner's name & the address.  So wanted to see if the house was still here.  It is.  Very cool.

Today's Name Day:  Jon, Jonna

I am friends now with a Johnita, a lady.  I was in high schooll with a Johhnie.  A girl..  Have know many Jon's or John's.

    Had a pretty good day!!  Slept good with a short nap.  Cinder slept with me in my nap.  Love her snuggles & purring.  😸

    Had an eye dr, appointment.  Not with the dr.  Just a test. Was not in the mood so I canceled.  No big deal.

    Met my friend RG for supper at the Crown & Rye.  They were really busy.  Good to see.  Even saw a few people I know.

    RG walked by Jalsico's on the way for supper.  No one in there.  The carpet is still there but all tables & chairs are gone.  Who knows where.  Storage unit?  Sold?  Hmmmm.  We will not plan on eating there next thursday.  Going somewhere else.  

    Weather is ok today.  High around 91 but low humidity.  Really cold autumn like weather headed our way.  My friend CW is as excited as I am.  My friends who live in California have super hot weather.  Las Vegas will be 109F tomorrow.  I could live with that.  Just never leave the casino.  No problem.  Been there in the heat.

    When I got home both cats came running to greet me.  Sweet.  Either glad to see me or into some thing they knew was a no no

11/2024 Tisdag the 5 th - Wandering & Capturing Moments

 

Election Day.

Today is the day the US votes for who will be the new president of our country.  I am not relaxed.  Close to terrified.  I should turn the tv off.

Today's Name Day: Eugen, Eugenia

Not blogging normally.  Just photos of the town I live near ---- Falun KS.

The Falun Lutheran Church where voting takes place.  Did not take me long.  On the way out one of Willie's best friends came in.  She always disliked me.  Not seen her since long before he died.  She forced a smile & hello.

This is the house where Willie's boss lived when he was a trucker.  His boss was a nice lady, but tough.  Drove for Gerald's Trucking.  Hauled cattle & grains.  I miss those days & the other drivers.

The Falun State Bank.  Eventually it moved to Lindsborg & changed its name.  Did have an apartment in it once.  Now empty.

Our park.  The rock gates are from the school that is torn down.

The old original post office & the present one.  The old one was a home for a long time.  Looks empty now.

When I got married this was a small grocery store.  Nice if you just needed bread or milk or whatever.  Closer than driving to town.  Second floor was an apartment.  Next it was a restaurant with quite good food.  My mother-in-law worked there.  We had a milk cow and we gave them milk.  I cooked with the cream.  Great when harvest was happening.  Now it is abandoned.

This was Dauer Implement that sold farm equipment & did repairs.  And we had some really fun parties in it with dancing, drinking & potluck meals.  Those were the days.  Someone lives in it now plus has a small gift shop.

The elevator.  Used to be open all the time.  During harvest the one guy working would always call me at home to see if Willie was still cutting.  If I said yes he would stay open until Willie had dumped his wheat.  Now only open for wheat harvest.  There was a very old silo there of wood that Willie & friends tore down & used the wood.

We got married in 1966.  The phones we had were the old crank phones with a married couple who were the operators.  We had at least 7 people on our party line.  We never got dial phones until 1976.  T

en long years!!!  We were the last ones in the state without dial phones.  Our number was 818.  think the ring was long-short-long.

I sure miss the old times in Falun.  We knew everyone in town.  We had community picnics.  Now many of the nice homes are in disrepair.  So sad.  Great memories.

03 september, 2022 Wandering

    Today is my brother, JR, birthday.  I let him decided how to celebrate.  And we had a fun day! 

    We started out headed west out of town to an old abandoned house.  Everyone & their dog has taken photos of it!  Me included.  He brought is super zoom in lens & took many photos.  I cannot wait to see them.  I took photos from my car.  I played with my different photo apps.  I have 2 that no matter how much you zoom in it is sharp.  No blurring.  JR is hoping to splice some of his together for a cool photo

    Then we drove to the north.  Drove by a field we used to plant wheat in.  Owned by a doctor & family.  And across the road was a pasture we once had cattle in.  The fence is one that Willie built.  I remember he had it done for a couple of days when the county road crew knocked part of it down.  He was livid.  And they tried to lie but eventually they fixed it all.  So many memories.  

    Then we turned to the west & came upon an abandoned business call Buildex.  They made gravel.  I remember when it closed.  You cannot drive into it.  They have placed huge squares of concrete in the drive.  JR was so excited.  He had no idea it was here.  Lots more photos.  And from me too.  There is a large sign on the outside of one building saying they have had 900 days without an accident & lets all keep up the good work.  Been many hundreds of days now.  😁  It is fascinating to see.

    We left there & headed to Falun which is on its way to a ghost town.  Used to be some nice homes there but most are in bad shape now.  I took a lot of photos & told JR who lived where, about the 2 hotels where on had a ballroom, an old grocery store then restaurant.  More memories.

    After Falun we were off to Pizza Hut for a large beef & bacon with extra cheese pizza.  To die for!!!  Perfect ending to a perfect day!!

    Yesterday was hard for me.  My grandson went to the doctor for one thing & was discovered he now has a chronic disease.  Not fatal but truly life changing.  He called me on the way to a specialist & told me his lab results.  Said he would call after the doctor.  But he never did.  Probably had others to call & just trying to adjust.  Not important if I know or not.  I am usually last to know most things.  Just part of life.  He will call when he has time.

    I could not sleep last night.  Very restless & I kept crying.  With all the memories tonight might be the same.  Dang it all.

    Last night a friend from Wichita made a comment on something I posted.  We ended texting for a long time about Swedish food, his hometown, a mutual friend.  Nice.
