27 march, 2023 Wandering & Capturing Moments

Had a fun day.  My friend LL & I made a road trip for lunch & to buy products for the Old Mill gift shop.

We drove to Moundridge KS. with plans to have pizza in a new place called The Hub.  But.  Unknown to us, the kitchen is not open on Sunday & Monday.  Then it is just a coffee shop.  Looks great but no pizza.

We walked down the block to a place called El Paso, a Mexican restaurant.  Their menu is the size of a book!  With my touchy tummy I chose small.  Want to return when I am driving & can feel bad if needed.  They were super busy.  The service was not as good as it should have been.  Food was good.

Then we drove just outside of town to a retirement village.  Really nice homes.  The lady we met was very nice.  She had boxes of wheat weaving things.  Wow!!  I cannot imagine making them all!!  LL picked out the ones she wants for our festival called Mill Fest.  During that time the Mill is turned on but no wheat goes through it.  Too much work to clean up.  It is about 3 stories & a basement.  People can tour whether it is running or not.  No children allowed in when running.  Too dangerous.  We will be back for more wheat weavings that are Christmas themed later.

I plan a road trip back to Moundridge myself.  There are 2 museums, great old buildings, & a wonderful old church.  Lots of photos to take!!!

I got a short nap at home but Nico was a terror tonight.  He was in to everything after supper.  Weather?  He would not listen at all.

On sundays on CNN at 9pm there is a new show about Mexico.  I think it stars Eva Longoria.  She lives in Mexico City.  It was so interesting.  I am a picky eater, but there were several dishes I would try.  Interesting.

Shared photos with JS of today & chatted a bit.  Those are my photos today.  The first photo was in my pasture.  My nephew was hauling out for a project at his home.

18 January, 2023 Wandering & Capturing Moments

We got rain.  No idea how much but it is muddy.  Still.  It finally stopped sometime this morning.  Cinder was in all night.  Then back in around 1230pm.  And stayed in while I worked & ate supper.

The temp stayed around 38F all night.  Hit 40 something today.  Now 32F.  I still feel chilled.

I worked today at the Old Mill.  Glad to see everyone.  I finished the large book of old photos of the Mill.  Now doing a large book of only river & dam photos.  I am really enjoying this.  Great to be back.

JR & I ate at Jalisco's.  They were busy when we got there.  They never used to be busy so early.  By the time we left it was quiet.

Got outside to go home, it was drizzling.  Heavy drizzle & some fog.  I had to use the wipers.

Lots of snow in the NW corner of Kansas & in Nebraska.  Schools & roads closed.  This was not supposed to be a big storm.  Ha.  They were wrong.  No big deal here but out west it was.

    Photos are winter themed.

04 January, 2023 Wandering & Capturing Moments

Much better day.  I slept last night & with little pain.  The joy of chronic illnesses.  Bad times & better times.  Never the same.

I worked in the office of the Old Mill today while everyone else was in a meeting in town.  I had to be there by 12N.  I had stressed over whether I would have time to fix a meal for me or could I make time to pick something up to bring with me.  Then my boss texted me she would get me a sandwich from the the White Peacock.  So nice of her.  I am lucky to work for her.  And the other 2 in my office too.  Fun times.

After the office I was back to scanning old photos of the Mill.  I love to see them.  We think this is the only roller mill restored that works in the US.  Very cool.  We had talked about the rock fence near the mill & when it was built.  They thought in the 1930S.  But on large photo of the mill that was taken in 1926 & the rock fence was there then.  New info!!

Then. I had a little time at home & finally JR & I ate at Jalisco's.  They were not too busy. but good to see everyone.

The day was quite good.  Only 3 things that upset me.  I hate being manipulated to get me involved in a personal situation.  I cannot take sides between people I like.  Not my place.  Not my fight.  The third thing was just personal.  No biggie.  And all towards the end of the day which is better than at the beginning.

Weather is mild & not a drop of moisture for us here.  Typical.  Western Kansas did get some snow & they need it more than anywhere.  January is to be mild but then a couple of months of cold weather.  And hopefully snow.

Photos are sweet drawings of winter.  They appeal me so much.

14 December, 2022 Wandering & Capturing Moments

I actually slept ok.  Although I had some pain & the awful stress.  And a restless Nico.   Weather related?  Sigh.......

Worked today at the Old Mill.  I was sooo glad to be back.  Nice to see everyone.  I accomplished a lot.  But I made some errors but easy to fix.

I hurried home as my grandsons had planned to be out to do some work for me. But it got too late.  Be here tomorrow.  Then JR & I went to Jalisco's to eat.  It was super quiet.  So there was time to visit with JS & MA.  The kitchen staff came out too.  Nice meal.

I felt no wind in town but there is a medium breeze out in the country.  Cold taking Nico out.  And feeding Cinder.

Watching Disney - A Christmas Carol.  Looks great.  Will watch on old version on sunday afternoon.

Pictures today are cars or trucks in Christmas mode.  In Lindsborg they have a contest who can decorate their car the best!  Fun!

12 november, 2022 Wandering & Capturing Moments

I worked at the Old Mill in the office while my boss was out of town giving a program.  It was beyond slow.  I had 5 people come in for self guided tours.  They were all nice.  I forgot my phone charger so I had to ration using it.  But there was a newspaper I read & Halloween candy I got into!!

AP, new worker, came in to close it all up.  Have to lock up the main building & roller mill.  And we have an old town set up that all the doors have to be locked.  But we had time to chat for over 30 minutes.  I really did not know him but I do now.  We had a nice talk.  Found we have things in common.

Got home & Nico started right away being a brat!  My payment for being gone.  He is a mess!!  I finally got a long stick to threaten him with.  I would never hit him but the sound scares him.  He wants to eat but people food.  I cannot eat until my Pepsi is cold.  Another 20 minutes.  Plus he has food of his own to eat.

It got sooo cold last nite. I saw 15F last night. Today the high was 36F.  They are still mentioning snow for the next week but I assume not for us.  A friend in Illinois sent me a photo of her snow.  Soooo jealous.  Just gorgeous!!

Photos are some old ones.  Will explain them.

Dad standing in front of the only flying B29 at that time.  Named Fifi.  Now there is a second one named Doc that flies.  Cool to see them.  Last time one was in Salina I cried when I heard it start & fly by.  I have tears just writing this.

Dad's crew in WWII.  He is the first one in the back row.  Plane is named after their commander. Last name was Hapgood.  Dad stayed friends with him after the war.  And many of their crew kept in touch.  I remember a couple that visited.

Snow in front of Jalisco's.

28 september, 2022 Wandering & Capturing Moments

Still great sleeping weather.  Love the cool nights.  Last night was 53F.  The high today was 79F.  Just add some rain now & then it would be perfect.

Sat outside with Nico this morning.  So nice.  Had a great breeze.  Tonight I was going to sit outside with Nico & I got suddenly covered with mosquitos. Twenty or more!!  Yikes!!!  When I came in & sat down, I quickly killed 3 on me.  Yuck.  Hope that is it.  Hate to sit in the house covered with bug repellent.  Smells so nasty.

I hope my family is ok in Florida.  I would have left the state 2 weeks ago.  I am not brave.  And swimming is not something I excel at.  Watching CNN.  Showing a fire station.  Water almost half way up on the trucks.  Firemen are wading in deep water.  They cannot drive the trucks but are still trying to help those who need to be helped.  The photos are just awful.  The one reporter was in a parking lot that was originally concrete & full of cars.  Now it is empty of all cars & sand covers all the concrete.  The beach moved from the beach to the lot.

The mayor of NYC insulted the entire state of Kansas today.  How rude.  It is fine to beat your own drum but no need to slam others when you do not know anything about them.  He thinks he is so special.  He came off as snotty.  Kansas people are much nicer than he is.

Today was a work day.  So glad to be there.  Nice to see everyone.  I finally got done with the Grasshopper school & started a new one.

I am not well today.  I feel ok but my blood sugar is scary high.  Over 400.  Why?  Stayed like that over night.  Again, why?  I left work early to call my doctor.  They were to give him or his PA my message.  Never got a call back.  Nice.  I may be looking for a new doctor.  I checked before supper & it came down to a little over 300.  Maybe I am trying to get some kind of illness.  That can screw your sugars up.  But my vital signs have been ok.  I am not happy.  My bestie is worried & not happy either.  He was caring.  Nice for me.

Supper at Jalisco's.  I skipped ice cream for me.  😧  They were rather slow tonight.  People watching the hurricane?  Strange.

Photos are of one of my fave places, The Scheme.  Need to go back again.  The best pizza!  And such a nice atmosphere.
