Wheat harvest

Harvest started in earnest this afternoon. Shorter time than usual to work on the combines this year. And of course, it was beyond hot today. It was 99F when I went to get supper. But there was a strong wind which helped.

The wheat is awful. The elevator should be docking us 30% but said the would only take 15% off. We have 2 semis coming out to haul our wheat in to Salina. Glad we do not have to haul our own wheat any more. The local elevators do not offer trucks for anyone, but 2 in Salina do. And also pay us a bit more for our wheat. We pay the truckers. It works good. Otherwise it takes forever with our tiny trucks. Not rich enough to own a semi of our own.

We work with our nephew and help each other cut all of his and our wheat. Works out great for all of us. We run 3 machines.

I bought out pizza today. I refuse to cook this year. My dishwasher broke months ago and he refuses to fix or buy a new one. I have bad back pain and my fingers hurt like crazy with my rheumatoid arthritis. Awful to wash dishes. I have to take care of me as no one else does. Other than my daughter and brother. Difficult for me this year. And carrying several heavy pans/bowls is just not going to happen.

As awful as the wheat is, the insurance companies force us to cut it all. They should be able to look, as we do, and see how bad it is. Too much wear and tear on men and machines.
